Mentalist Christopher Carter surprises Seward students

Mentalist Christopher Carter enjoys freaking out the audience during his performances, and that is certainly what he did when he performed for the students of Seward County Community College on March 30 in the Showcase Theater.

“I like it when I make people scream,” Carter said. “I love it when I freak people out.”

A crowd  of about 150 attended Carter’s show which is composed of many acts, including him being able to read and answer audience member’s questions while blindfolded and having duct tape over his eyes, lighting two fluorescent light bulbs without any electricity, hypnotizing an audience member and spelling the word “miracle” from letters that were shuffled and kept hidden from him.

Country artist Bucky Covington rocks Liberal

Country singer, and former American Idol contestant Bucky Covington was a whole lot of country and a whole lot of rock ’n’ roll adding up to one amazing show.  

The day before the Country Showdown, a vocal concert took place where 25 hopefuls competed for cash money and prizes.

The top three also got the opportunity to open for Covington. 

The top three finalist were Chelsea Beck, Matt Holly and Denasa Rice. 

Covington had the crowd up on their feet right from the start.  Covington was also very interactive with the crowd, as he would sign autographs and even pose for pictures while singing at the same time.

Mission Improvable brings the laughs

The Mission Improvable show started out with 4 improv agents known as agent orange, agent party, agent dragon, and agent espionage telling the audience they would have several improv missions through out the show, and handed out envelopes to the audience. The missions could be accepted by shouting “I have a mission should you choose to accept it!” to the improv agent. The 4 guys were highly energetic and got the audience into the show by telling them they were going to shut off the part of their brains that tells them not to randomly shout out suggestions.They improv agents then proceeded to divide the audience into two halves, one being the the side of lions and other side being the bears with the exception of one girl who was team...

 

Concert brings frills, festivity to fans

The Showcase Theatre housed a full audience Dec. 4 for the collge’s music department winter concert featuring the Wind Ensemble, the Singing Saint Concert Choir and the Sound Express Show Choir.
The Wind Ensemble started the show off strongly with three festive songs known as the “Three moods of Hanukkah” they continued with other performances of other traditional Christmas songs including “Carol of the Bells” and “Dona Nobis Pacem.” The Wind Ensemble ended their set strongly with 3 very fast paced songs known as the Russian Triptych.

‘Little Women’ set for stage

Little Women will be presented by the Rainbow Players at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11 and 12.

The Rainbow Players compose Liberal’s community theatre, comprised of board of directors and other theatre lovers throughout Liberal.

“We chose ‘Little Women’ because it is a classic, its universal and it has Christmas themes.  It’s a love letter to simpler, gentler times,” Alison Chambers, Seward drama director, said. “It’s a nice way to forget the troubles of 2009 and remember the humanity in all of us.”

Tickets can be bought through cast members, board members, or at First National Bank. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for children age 4-12.
