Director directs directors in ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Both have directed stage productions. But in two weeks, the directors will become the stars in “Beauty and the Beast.”

Lauren Peck and Tony Claus will be the Beauty and the Beast, respectively in the spring musical directed by Alison Chambers.

Both Peck and Claus are instructors at Liberal High School. Claus is the vocal music instructor and Peck is the theater and speech instructor. Both collaborate on the school musicals, Claus teaching the vocal.

“They were the best for their roles,” director Chambers said. “They have beautiful singing voices and they were the strongest choices for their parts. I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t cast them.”

SC student Sheniece Morton crowned Miss Liberal

Sheniece Morton is no quitter. It may have taken her three tries but she finally achieved what she set out to do two years ago, be crowned Miss Liberal.

“I was very surprised and even shocked,” Morton said about having her name announced.

Morton participated in the Miss Liberal competition since 2008, when she was a senior in high school. She placed in the Top 5 in both ’08 and ’09 pageants but it took her a third try to finally be crowned Miss Liberal.

“She was very well qualified and she did great job,” Lu Haines, pageant director said. Haines has been on the boards of many beauty pageants and has overseen twelve in Liberal.

Fog and smoke filled the air as spotlights shone down on bassist James Lomenzo, drummer Shawn Drover, and new six-string shredder Chris Broderick as they one-by-one took the stage. The crowd’s screams and chants of “Mega-deth” were drowned out to piercing screams from all directions when frontman Dave Mustaine shredded his way to center stage.


Mustaine and Broderick traded solos back and forth in their intro—which happened to be “Dialectic Chaos,” the intro off of “Endgame.”

Trick-Or-Treat Street Top 5

Trick-or-Treat Street Oct. 29 brought approximately 800 to campus for the annual event sponsored by SGA and campus clubs. Kylix art students and the Crusader recorded photos at one booth. Logan Green as Scarecrow

Read more...In this year’s Seward County Community College/ Area Technical School musical production, Logan Green will be playing the absent brained scarecrow.

“The character is simple and complex at the same time,” Green explained. “You could say ‘it takes a lot of brains to be a brainless character.’”
