The Next Televised Sport

When people say the name Michael Jordan, it clicks. Brett Favre? You already know. How about Tiger Woods, have you heard of him? Of course you have. These names are familiar to almost everyone, and for a number of reasons. All of these athletes are well known because they both changed the game they played by moving it to the next level, and because they get more media coverage than any of us could ever dream of.

So how long is it before you’re more familiar with the name Daigo Umehara? What about Justin Wong? Tony Cannon? F4tal1ty? What about Lim Yo-Hwan? If you heard someone say that any one of these people was at a store just down the street from you would you run and see or would you just say “So?”

No parents, no problem

“By the various levels of stress in my house, you would think my parents were going to college and I was staying home,” was a Facebook status I saw at the beginning of the semester.


He’s got that right. It seems like in most cases, the parents freak out more than the kids do. Of course, there’s the exceptions: parents who are too busy or have too many kids to worry too much about their almost-in-college kid, or parents of kids who were such a nuisance, they say “Good riddance!” when they finally leave.


Before my senior year of high school, I always thought I’d be crazy nervous when it came time to go to college.

What is that noise?

Here in the dorms at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School, there are a variety of noises to be heard. The only problem with having all of these noises in one building, aside from how overwhelming they can get, is being able to distinguish what they are and where they are coming from. While the men reside downstairs and the women are upstairs, the many noises in the dorms travel beyond just downstairs and upstairs. Therefore, I began a quest to seek out some of the regular noises heard here in the college's dorms.

Downstairs, regular noises are bounced off of the ping-pong table in the game room, as well as from various rooms blasting music that ranges from hip-hop to rock. Also downstairs are the "clickity-clacking"...
