What value is in a number?

In sports, numbers are everything. A player with a .215 career batting average in college most likely will not be given a chance to make a Major League team or even an Olympic team; however, a player that has a .457 career batting average in college is one of the most sought after players.

Numbers apply to coaching as well. Coaches who are winning are more likely to retain their jobs and receive offers for better jobs than a coach who has a horrible winning percentage.

Lady Saints keep winning, not slowing down as playoffs near

The Seward County Lady Saints softball team continues to prove that they are a top team in the nation as they rolled through Barton, 4-0 and 3-0 on Wednesday at Lady Saints Field.

Erin Roufosse took the circle for the Saints in the first game of the doubleheader and was lights out from the first pitch.

Roufosse took a no-hitter into the seventh inning when Kayla Becker laced a single to left field to break up the no-no.

Roufosse used a combination of strikeouts and ground balls to baffle the Barton County hitters as she had seven strikeouts and 12 ground ball outs.

Lady Saints keep rolling through schedule

The Seward County Lady Saints softball team has started off the 2010 season after winning eight of their first nine games.

The Lady Saints went to Tonkawa, Okla. to face off with Northern Oklahoma on Tuesday and ended the day with a split, giving them its first loss of the season in eight innings with a score of zero to two in game one and they won game two, 10 to two.

Erin Roufosse took the mound for the Lady Saints in the first game and continued to pitch as well as she has all season. Roufosse went seven and a third innings giving up two earned runs on five hits, while striking out four.
Roufosse received the loss (4-1) after she gave up a walk-off homerun to Kelsea Schultz in the eighth inning.

SC defeats Garden in home game

The Seward Lady Saints softball team played their only home game of the fall season on Sept. 30 against the Garden City Lady Broncbusters. The two teams played one game that lasted 14 innings, instead of the usual 7 inning doubleheaders. The Lady Saints beat the Lady Broncbusters 14-8. Sophomore outfielder Shelby Casey was 2-6 in the game with a double.


“I felt pretty confident,” Casey said. “A couple at-bats I was frustrated because of my defensive playing.”


Sophomore pitcher Erin Roufosse was the starting pitcher for the game and pitched five innings, struck out seven, and gave up two earned runs.
