The International Student Organization at Seward County Community
College, which is sponsored by Frank Challis and Patsy Fischer,
is now planning activities for next year.
The purpose of this organization is to give international students
a voice in the SGA and provide them with better benefits as
well as activities.
I like the organization, because you get to learn about
different countries, and their cultures, how they are different
from each other, student Valerie Stevens said.
More than 30 international students from different countries
are involved, but usually about 10 attend meetings. Members
are asked to attend at least two meetings a year.
The organization is a way to feel more comfortable, because
there are students from different places, you are not scared
about how you speak your language, Fabiola Wisnesky, an
international student from Brazil, said. They meet once a month,
and plan to start meeting in the student union, near the International
flag display.
President of this organization is Sanela Dejanovic, who is from
Serbia and a sophomore at Seward County. The next meeting day
is being discussed. The organization began in fall of 2007 and
is currently planning activities for next year.
Some activity ideas include the following: Movie Night with
selected favorite movies from the members countries, Pot
Luck Dinner Nights in which they serve their favorite dish from
their country, and Intramural Games.
The international student organization is a serious club,
even though it is a young club that has recently been set up.
Every member has values, and has a voice in the club. We all
get to decide on club activities, Ivan Michelli said.
Michelli is from Brazil.
Not only international students but also American students are
more than welcome to attend meetings. For more information about
the club, hose interested may contact instructor Frank Challis,
Patsy Fischer, or Dejanovic.
