The Lady Saints of Seward County Community College take over first place in the Jayhawk West Conference after sweeping Pratt Community College.
After taking two from Pratt 6-2 and 17-8, The Lady Saints have won nine of their last 10 and have a 9-1 conference record, and are 23-14 overall.
Sophomore Lindsay Garchinski talked about the win streak.
“We are getting better, and I think we are going to get stronger,” Garchinski said.
Freshman pitcher Courtney Auger led the Lady Saints throwing the first game of the twin bill only allowing two runs while striking out 14.
This is Auger’s sixth-straight victory and has double-digit strikeouts in 10 games this season.
Auger now only needs 24 strikeouts in her first season at SCCC to break the Seward County all-time record for career strikeouts.
SCCC was led offensively in the first game by sophomore catcher Melissa St. Clair after going 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI.
The Lady Saints offense exploded for 17 runs in the second game. St. Clair went 2 for 4 with a run and four RBI.
Garchinski went 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBI while freshman Alyssa Fandrick went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI.
The Lady Saints saw home runs in the second game from Fandrick, St. Clair, and sophomore Jen Collins.
The Lady Saints continue action this weekend with games today against Brown Mackie College starting at 2 p.m. and Sunday against Otero Junior College starting at noon.
