The No. 15 Seward County Saints lost to the Southwest Tech Mavericks on Jan. 30 with a score of 80-78 with a last second shot.

The Saints played slow in the beginning of the game but slowly caught up and took the lead with a Marco Morency put back.

At halftime, a turn around jumper lead the Mavericks to 43-42 against the Seward Saints.

Towards the end of the game, with a minute left to play, free throws by the Mavericks tied the game at 78 before causing a miscue by the Saints offence, giving Northwest Tech a chance for one more shot. The Mavericks made the shot within 3.5 seconds left. Selmi attempted to make a shot in before the buzzer but time was up and the Mavericks had won 80-78

Three Saints scored in double-figures, led by Marco Morency‘s career-high 22 points. Hegel Augustin (10 pts) and Mohamed Selmi (16 pts) both reached double-figures.

Seward will travel to Hutchinson on Saturday (Feb. 2) for a first place battle in the Jayhawk West with the Blue Dragons.  The game will tip at 7:30 p.m. and can be heard on 107.5 FM with Brock Kappelmann on the call.
