An unproductive third quarter almost cost the Lady Saints a win Jan. 14 against Garden City Community College’s Broncbusters. A late surge helped push Seward to the 68-60 win, giving GCCC their firs home loss of the season.

The Lady Saints came out hot, connecting on six of their first eight shots. Even a time out by Garden City didn’t knock off their rhythm. They continued to connect on offense and defense, pushing their lead to double digits.

But the Broncbusters came out of the half fighting and clawing. They held Seward to a 12 minutes without making a single field goal and Garden City took the lead.

Lexi Hernandez broke the drought with a jump shot. From this point, each team went back and forth on score five or six points at a time. With 40 second left in the game,  Silvia Veloso secured the win for the Lady Saints, winning 68-60.

Three Lady Saints reached double-figures, led by Carla Covane‘s 20 points. Silvia Veloso finished with 11 points and one assist shy of a double-double.  Szydlowska came away with 11 points and 13 rebounds to record her third double-double on the season.

Seward will travel to Pratt on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game against the Beavers.  The game can be heard on 107.5 FM with Brock Kappelmann on the call.
