Kowalchuk checks in as coach for Razorbacks

Christian Kowalchuk has a few baseball firsts. Two are the first and only Saskatchewan baseball player to play in a NCAA Division 1 baseball College World Series(2009), and also, first and only Canadian to date to coach baseball for the Arkansas Razorbacks of the Southeastern Conference, one of the premier conferences in all the nation. Kowalchuk is currently a full time assistant at the University of Arkansas.

The Crusader has again been selected as the recipient of the All-Kansas award, the top journalism award for two-year college newspapers in the state. The Crusader won the All-Kansas award in 2013, with the 2014 back-to-back win announced at the Kansas Collegiate Media conference Monday in Wichita.

Katelyn Craker is a sophomore who plays as a left-handed pitcher for the Lady Saints softball team. She has played more than 50 innings and has more than 50 strikeouts. She was named KJCCC Pitcher of the Week in April of 2013.

Korina Chapman is a sophomore for the Lady Saints basketball team. She is from Albuquerque, N.M. Before playing at Seward, Korina played at Boston College, where her season was cut short due to a knee injury. While at Boston College, she played a total of 31 games as a freshman.

Although the finalists for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence won’t be determined until next year, the first rounds have already begun. Seward County Community College/ Area Technical School made the first round by being one of the 150 community colleges selected from 37 of the 50 states.
