As summer comes around I can’t help but be filled with joy on the bright days coming up. For me, it’s also a day for defrosting a hero that is well beloved by all people, especially in this season: Spider-Man. As a Spider-Man enthusiast, Spider-Man has given me the vibe of summertime because of its memories, the atmosphere, and the movies that are released during the period. 

I remember the first time my mom introduced me to Spider-Man or as she would say it “the best one”. I was about 13 years old, she told me that in order for me to see “The Amazing Spider-Man” I had to see the original. So there I was sitting on the couch on my phone right after summer break – typical teenage behavior, minding my business –  until I heard the iconic line “Look! Spider-Man!” I looked up from my seat and saw Tobey Maguire saving some damsel in distress, swinging through the city of New York City while also doing all these cool moves like backflips on the Empire State building. I thought to myself “Wow, now this is a hero with passion in his eyes.” I even started reflected on my own life. I was far from being the perfect student and struggled a lot in school, but that year after seeing Spider-Man for the first time, I got the motivation to turn my own academics around. This might sound silly, but When I went back to school I worked hard on improving my grades and would even take harder classes just to challenge myself. I just kept thinking “What would Spider-Man do?” and strived to be a hard worker just like him. In the end, it did pay off. I got Student of the Year and would start to begin caring more about my grades, which I still do to this day. 

What made this hero stand out to me though was even after fighting these big villains like the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and much more, was that he would just go back to his ordinary life. Instead of celebrating or going back to a mansion after fighting all these villains, he would instead go back to his grandparents, Aunt May and Uncle Ben, start doing homework, get rejected by his school crush, have money problems and in general just trying to figure out who he was as a person.That was something I really related to as well, especially when I was in high school, and I was also trying to figure out who I wanted to be in life and what contributions I wanted to put into the world. 

From then on I fell in love with Spider-Man. I wanted to be just like him. I wanted to be the type of person who saved people because he simply just wanted to do the right thing. He made mistakes too but that would never stop him from helping anyone in need. That’s why I think this makes Spider-Man such a loved hero by all as well. 

The atmosphere is such a big part as well for Spider-Man because it really does make me think of summer. The city, hotdog stands and the adventures that Spider-Man goes through really bring out that inner child of yours, making you want to go outside and do something (well at least to me it does). During July it feels even more stronger because of the colors red and blue posted everywhere, matching the same energy of fun and fresh air. Also many Movies of Spider-Man release during summer. Even now, the newest Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland, called “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” comes out in theaters July 31. In general though, watching a Spider-Man movie during the summer feels just about right. 

Whether it’s something big or small  Spider-Man is always there reminding me that summertime is just around the corner. Whether that be the excitement I have with seeing him or remembering the first time I saw Spider-Man in the summer, Spider-Man will continue to bring me joy during the summer and give me that adventure Spirit. So I leave you with this question, Who’s your favorite hero? And if it’s  Spider-Man, this might cause a debate, but who’s your favorite Spider-Man?
