Niem Stevenson, who was named an NJCAA All-American, drives to the lane against Hutchinson.  The Saints freshman averaged 19.3 points per game on the year, 1.6 steals and 5.3 rebounds per game.

After one of the best freshmen years in Seward County history, Niem Stevenson took home a NJCAA 3rd team All-American award.

Saints season ends on Pratt long shot

In the second round of the Region VI tournament, Seward took on Pratt March 7 at Koch Arena in Wichita. This would be the third meeting between these two teams this season as the teams split the games in the previous meetings. This was a big game as it would determine who would go the regional semifinal game so this is the one that really counted.

NJCAA award follows top performer for Saints

While Niem Stevenson is a student at Seward County Community College, he has yet to pick a major or set a long-term plan to follow for his future. All Stevenson knows is that he wants to play basketball at a four-year university after Seward, and right now those plans look like they will be a reality.

Purtue persists for beaming future

It just seemed to happen at the right place, at the right time. He was working out at Marshall Middle School with a couple of other men, when Seward Head Coach Bryan Zollinger came in and saw him play basketball. That was five years ago, when Quentin Purtue, Seward Saints forward player for the men’s basketball team, received his chance to become more for himself, and his family.

Seward sets the new high standard

So it’s probably not exactly how they wanted to do it, but despite a last second 69-68 loss to Cloud County Saturday night at Bryant Gymnasium in Concordia, the Seward County Saints still managed to make Jayhawk Conference history by becoming the only four-time consecutive outright Jayhawk West Champions in league history.

Calling Seward's Saturday night win at Hutchinson huge would be an understatement. Coach Bryan Zollinger, in his seventh year with the Saints, was 0-6 in the Sports Arena in regular season play.
The Saints played the Colorado Kings in the Green House Saturday and defeated the Kings, 88-82.

The Seward County Saints, ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA preseason poll, opened the season with two big wins when they hosted the Pepsi Classic in the Green House Nov. 2-3.

After leading the Saints to their second Region VI Title Game in four years, Jeremy Jones, Marky Nolen and Rafriel Guthrie were all named to the 2011 NJCAA All-Region performers.
