Seward County Community College is proud to present Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” with Book by Doug Wright, Music by Alan Menken, and Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater. The Stage and Musical Directors will hold auditions on Jan. 24 and 25 in the Showcase Theater from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Performance are scheduled for April 5 – 6 at 7 p.m. and a matinee at 3 p.m. on April 8.
“The Little Mermaid” is a fairy tale written by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The Danish literary master of fairy tales has achieved word wide recognition as an author of plays, novels, poems, travel books, and several autobiographies. His natural storytelling abilities and great imaginative power of folk legends produced a body of fairy tales that relates to many cultures.
“The musical has over 20 parts available for casting,” Michele Van Hessen, SCCC instructor and stage director, said.
It is not necessary to prepare a song from the show. Magda Silva, SCCC music instructor, will conduct a series of exercises to place the actors’ vocal ranges and the stage director will have the actors read from the book.
VanHessen said she is “calling all actors, singers and dancers to audition for this fishy fable.” She predicted that this spring musical will steal everyone’s heart.
