The Seward County Community College/ Area Technical School Hispanic American Leadership Organization traveled to Chicago over spring break and got the opportunity to hear Jesse Jackson speak. The conference took place from March 19 to 21 at the Sheraton Hotel. The conference featured workshops and presentations that gave the SCCC/ ATS HALO members a chance to meet with other HALO members from around the country. They also got to learn leadership skills. During the breakout sessions they listened to Jackson and several U.S. Senators. “My favorite part of the trip would be getting the experience of meeting other people and learning how to be a better leader and learning more about our culture,” HALO member Jessica Palacios said. The students who went on the trip got a chance to see the city during their few days there. They saw many of Chicago’s famous sights, including the Navy Pier. “We got to tour the city, although we did not have a whole lot of time to,” Palacios said. “We went to the Navy Pier, downtown, and to the Watertower Mall.” Nine students went on the trip. They were accompanied by Frances Brown, HALO sponsor.
