At Seward County Community College’s Health and Wellness Center, Sarah Martin was chosen to be the student worker of the month for August. Martin sits at the desk and helps students and community members check in or register.
Her job also includes giving tours of the center to the newcomers as well as lifeguarding at the Aquatics Center. Martin’s favorite part of the job is seeing people that come in regularly more often, learning more about them and meeting new people.
Andy Highfill, Wellness Center Director, sends out a survey to student workers each month asking who should be nominated based on their work ethic. Then the student with the most votes gets the award.
For this recognition the student gets small prizes like a gift card, coupons or a T-shirt. The students also gets recognition on social media and around school campus.
”It is a great way to set an example to others student workers,” said Highfill.
Mayra Gonzalez- Barrientos, a fellow Wellness Center employee, said, “This recognition motivates other student workers to work harder in getting nominated for this award.”
