In the age of social networking a three-year-old site is gaining fame with the rich and famous and the average person. Twitter was founded in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams. It is “a service for friends, family and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, often called ‘tweets’ of 140 characters or fewer,” according to Twitter.com. Twitter can be used many different ways and is not limited to the web at all. When someone signs up for Twitter they register their cell phone. They can then send their tweets through SMS or text messaging. There are multiple ways to tweet, everything from feeding onto your blog to getting constant messages through text. Twitter has become a favorite for many news outlets, tv shows and actors and musicians. Unlike some Myspace pages you can follow your favorite actor and it’s obvious that it’s the real person. Many news outlets, such as the New York Times and Nightline, are using Twitter to get feedback from their followers. Twitter’s constant updates may get annoying to some people, but it’s quite enjoyable for now.
