Volleyball prepares for ’09

The Lady Saints volleyball team has added four more players to its team for 2009.
Lexi Baldwin, a 6-2 middle hitter/ right side hitter from Wichita East High School will be joining the Lady Saints. Also joining the Lady Saints will be Katy Thomas, a 5-11 outside hitter from Mountain Home, Ark., and Stacie Carver, a 6-0 middle/outside hitter from Holliday, Texas. Rounding out the class will be Maddy Taylor, a 5-7 freshman from Denton, Texas, joining the team as a setter.
The recruits are welcomed to the team by six returning Lady Saints. Taryn Westerman, a 5-11 freshman brought 192 kills to the team as well as 31 aces. Lindsey Miller, a 5-10 freshman from Dumas, Texas, had 347 kills and 410 digs. LaKendra Sanders, a 6-0 freshman from Lewisville Texas, is a middle hitter and had 375 kills and 721 blocks. Stephanie Jacquez, a 5-9 freshman from Liberal had 15 kills and 61 digs. Amanda Savage, a 5-7 freshman from Wichita led in digs with 448. Finally, Adriann D’Amico, a 5-4 freshman had 115 digs and 5 aces. The Lady Saints ended their 2008 season with a record of 36-16.
Coach Bert Luallen continues to look for more players to add to the Lady Saints. With several prospects, Luallen is determined to build the perfect team. Luallen is hoping to fill two out-of-state scholarships, two in-state scholarships, one walk on, and has two positions open for managers.
The Lady Saints volleyball team is working hard to prepare for the 2009 season. They are working out in the weight room, attending practices and recently traveled to Fort Hays State University for a tournament. Not only are they preparing physically for next year, but also are continuing to build a team.
