Grant Glaze and Thayna Silva smiled and stood together for pictures after being crowned king and queen on homecoming night Saturday. Glaze represented the Crusader newspaper while Silva represented ISO. The two were selected from a group of students who were picked to represent organizations and clubs for the homecoming title. Glaze and Silva were the two representatives out of the top 10 with the most votes.

Seward looks forward after dropping season opener

The 2015 season opener for the Saints baseball team was one game that did not turn out the way they hoped. Seward fell to McCook Community College in a close game, 4-3, bringing the first loss of the season.

Saints optimistic for spring season

The Saints baseball team continued their fall scrimmages with games against Colorado Lightning and Clarendon College this past weekend. Galen McSpadden, head baseball coach, said, “I liked what I saw this weekend. As long as I can see progress, and that was on the mound, and that was defensively, and that was at the plate, so that’s encouraging.”

Christian Kowalchuk has a few baseball firsts. Two are the first and only Saskatchewan baseball player to play in a NCAA Division 1 baseball College World Series(2009), and also, first and only Canadian to date to coach baseball for the Arkansas Razorbacks of the Southeastern Conference, one of the premier conferences in all the nation. Kowalchuk is currently a full time assistant at the University of Arkansas.

Saints struggle in conference

The Seward County Saints go into postseason play this weekend in a do or die situation. They will play a best two out of three series with Neosho on Saturday and Sunday. With two wins, they will advance as one of the top eight teams to the Region VI Championships in Wichita next week, or with two losses, their season will be over.

Baseball rebounds after tough losses

The first doubleheader against the Saints rival, Garden City Busters on March 15 ended swiftly as JB Olsen lead the Saints to a win for the key conference doubleheader opener. In the series finale, Seward County takes control and steals the game 6-5, winning the series against Garden 3-1.

The Saints are currently 2-3 on the season. After a juggling act to decide which day would be the best weather to start the Saints season, both team’s coaches decided that Feb. 3 would be the best day to hit the diamond. This game was played against McCook, Neb. at Brent Gould Field.
