This year it was the 12 annual celebration of national poetry month and to celebrate the creative writers’ coffeehouse was held. During the coffeehouse, there were poems read by the contest winners and by the people who just wanted to share their poems.

This semester the SCCC English department is hosting a Celebration of Creative Writing night. It expands on the annual poetry coffee house by adding other types of writing to the event. It will be tonight at 7 p.m. in the band room.

Janice Northerns, English instructor, had the opportunity to meet other writers at Sewanee Writers Conference during the summer. She received a scholarship to attend the workshop and rub shoulders with those who have published work. Northerns plans to incorporate what she learned as part of the Creative Writing class she teaches in the fall.
